"In that portion east of Main Street and west of the Town Hill Ridge there was a rather considerable swamp. We are pretty confident that the swamp must have been a prominent feature in the topography, from the fact that the first settlers set their heart upon calling their town Swampfield..."
--James Montgomery Bailey, History of Danbury, Conn 1684-1896.
The Danbury Museum is eager to invite you--and your family and friends!--to the inaugural Swampfield Social. The "Social" is a family friendly luncheon with great storytelling by Brigid Guertin (Danbury Museum Executive Director and Danbury City Historian); Bill Devlin (Danbury historian and writer); John O'Donnell (researcher, genealogist, and local history enthusiast; and maybe a couple of surprise guests!
What's all involved in the inaugural Swampfield Social?
Well...
